How the survey and results work
A survey of over 15,000 people was conducted each participant was asked to rate every single pack in The Sims 4. This includes all 16 Expansions, 12 Game Packs, 20 Stuff Packs and 33 Kits as of 11 November 2024
If a participant did not own a pack, they were asked if they would buy a pack and if how buggy a pack appeared impacted their choice.
The % Percentage of owners is calculated from the users who provide a rating for that pack. This percentage is therefore an interesting approximation, but not a confirmation of how many participants own each pack.
Expansions & Game Packs
For every Expansion and Game Pack participants were asked to score the Gameplay, Build Mode items and features, Create a Sim outfits, hairs, accessories, the World if the pack came with one and how many Bugs they felt the pack had. These were rated on a scale of 0 - 10, 0 being the lowest and 10 being the highest.
The participants were also asked Yes or No if they felt the bugs impacted their enjoyment of the pack (the Bug Effect %) and they were also asked if they received the pack from a free promotion.
For each of these categories ( Gameplay, Build Mode, Create a Sim, World and Bugs), the scores participants provided were averaged to a single category score out of 10.
Each of the category scores (minus the Bugs score) were then averaged to give an overall pack score out of 10. The World score is weighted at half the strength of the other values to prevent a great or bad world from disproportionately affecting a pack's overall score.
We then factor in the Bugs Score, combined with the Bug Effect %, to calculate the final Weighted Score.
The formula
Step 1: Initial Score Calculation
Initial Score =
Gameplay + Build Mode + Create a Sim + (0.5 × World)
———————————————————————————————————————————————
1 + 1 + 1 + 0.5
Step 2: Bug Adjustment
Adjustment Factor =
Bug Score × log2(1 + (Bug Effect % × 10))
———————————————————————————————
10
Step 3: Final Weighted Score
Weighted Score = Initial Score - Adjustment Factor
Stuff Packs
For every Stuff Pack participants were asked to score the pack overall and how many Bugs they felt it had. These were on a scale of 0 - 10, 0 being the lowest and 10 being the highest.
The scores participants provided were averaged to a single pack score out of 10 implementing Step 2 of the formula above to adjust the ratings with the Bugs Score.
The participants were also asked Yes or No if they felt the bugs impacted their enjoyment of the pack (the Bug Effect %) and they were also asked if they received the pack from a free promotion.
Kits
For every Kit participants were asked to score the individual pack on a scale of 0 - 10, 0 being the lowest and 10 being the highest.
The scores participants provided were averaged to a single pack score out of 10.
The participants were also asked Yes or No if they received the pack from a free promotion.
